Videogame Tuesday: Bioshock

Without spoilers (for the most part)
Bioshock has always been a popular game. However I just started playing it a few weeks ago.

So when you enter the game you witness the crash of your airplane and swim to a nearby lighthouse that seems to be the only thing around. You enter a small submarine and dive to find the most gorgeous underwater city you have ever seen. When you finally enter the place where you are supposed to get out of the submarine you watch as a man falls prey to the hands of a splicer. A shadow with a shiny hook that starts to open your submarine. That was pretty much the end for me. I exited the game and it took me about a week to try and play again. This time I made it and I have been playing it for the last two weeks non-stop.
The game takes place somewhere in the 1950 if I’m correct and you are a mysterious man who’s plane crashes in the middle of nowhere or should I say Rapture. This underwater city has turned to a completely unhospitable place for anyone with its residents having lost it from the plasmid. The plasmid is an essence –let us say- that gives you sort of magical powers. The man that saves you asks you to help him find his wife and kid and in your quest to do so, you encounter the former residents of this place and get to know what happened to this place.
I have to say my favourite part was the one with the plastic surgeon. His story appealed to me a lot and as I would find his journals I was more and more intrigued by his character and the way he was going crazy. Other than that all of the journals are amazing as you get to know the story of this place from the people that witnessed and created the change. The music, the inability to see everything and the felling that you are in an underwater city that could be destroyed any moment really gets you into the felling of a horror game. This is also achieved by how weak you feel at the beginning of the game. Another thing I really liked was the saving points and their explanation, as I found that it was the best one I have ever found in a videogame for saving.
The best thing out of everything though was that this game never failed to amaze me with its turning points and changes. I never knew what to expect and that was the best part. Also the realizations about what this place was and is, never where in your face because they would come from some kind of diary-tapes so when for a big part of the game I thought it was a post-apocalyptic game in a place that had lost its society. It wasn’t until later that I realised it still considered itself a normal society just with different people (if you can call splicers people).

All in all the game was fantastic and I would suggest it to anyone, that wants to play a different and truly compelling game that sucks you into its world and doesn't let you go.  Here is the website for more information.
